golden jubilee 2011

Peninsula Grammar, formerly The Peninsula School, celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2011. Our founders would be proud of the way the School has grown, thrived and become an integral part of the local community over the past half century.

Our founders' intention was to establish a a school on the Mornington Peninsula that would be nationally recognised as providing a viable alternative to the older independent schools in Melbourne. As the first new Anglican independent boys' school in Victoria in nearly fifty years, our founders had no recent models to follow and no real precedents to show the way. They established the School with the support of the local community and forged their own path.

Peninsula Grammar has come a long way since February 1961. The eighty eight boys who arrived on that first day couldn't have imagined the busy co-educational community of more than 1400 students that is Peninsula Grammar today.

As Principal, Stuart Johnston, said at Celebration Evening 2010:

'It will be important to rejoice in the past, the achievements, the success and the growth that has occurred during this time. In educational terms, fifty years is not that old. In some respects, it is comparable to a person’s 21st birthday; a coming of age. It will be an opportunity to celebrate all that the School has achieved while paying due respect to all those who have shaped its vision and contributed to its distinguished reputation. It will also be a catalyst to look to the future and boldly proclaim, with some pride and humility, the substance and quality of our remarkable school.'
