Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting Policy

Peninsula Grammar has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to the protection of all children from all forms of child abuse.

Child abuse includes sexual offences, grooming, physical violence, serious emotional or psychological harm, serious neglect and a child’s exposure to family violence.

Our Child Protection Program is made up of work systems, practices, policies and procedures designed to maintain a child safe environment and to embed an organisational culture of child safety within the School community. The Program deals specifically with child protection issues and is designed to ensure compliance with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and related child protection laws.

Anaphylaxis Management Policy

Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening.  The most common allergens in school aged children are peanuts, eggs, tree nuts (e.g. cashews), cow’s milk, fish and shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame, certain insect stings and medications. Adrenaline given through an auto injector to the muscle of the outer mid-thigh is the most effective First Aid treatment for anaphylaxis.

In accordance with guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) and Independent Schools Victoria (Ministerial Order No 706: Anaphylaxis Management in Victorian schools), Peninsula Grammar, like all Victorian schools, is required to regularly update information relating to currently enrolled students at risk from Anaphylaxis,

One of the requirements of the Ministerial Order is that the School must ensure that parents are aware of our Anaphylaxis Management Policy and the specific prevention strategies employed by the School to minimise the risk of a student having an anaphylactic reaction.

Peninsula Grammar believes that in order for students to learn to the best of their ability and to extend personal growth, they must have a safe and friendly environment in which to spend their time. The school provides a positive culture where bullying is not accepted, and in so doing, all students have the right of respect from others, the right to learn or to teach, and a right to feel safe and secure in their school environment.

Peninsula Grammar is a customer-focused organisation committed to the best possible outcomes for members of its community. When problems arise we welcome your contact so that we can work together to achieve a resolution. We recognise that the best outcomes are achieved when complaints are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
In the first instance a complaint concerning a secondary school teacher should be directed to the teacher concerned. If you feel this is not appropriate, address your concerns to the relevant Head of Year. If you are still not satisfied, you should contact the relevant, more senior, staff member - Head of the Middle Years (Years 5-8), the Head of Pre Senior Year 9 or the Head of the Senior Years (Years 10-12).
In the Early Childhood Centre and Junior Years, if a direct approach to the teacher concerned is not feasible, the relevant contact person is the the Head of Junior Years (K-4). In the English Language Centre contact the Director of International Programs. If the complaint relates to our Boarding program contact the Head of Boarding; if this is inappropriate contact the Director of International Programs.
In the event that the teacher concerned feels compromised in any way by a direct approach from a parent or caregiver, the matter will be referred to a senior member of staff who will then become involved in discussions.
If the complaint concerns a staff member other than a teacher, you should contact the Business Manager.
Once these avenues have been exhausted, or if you require advice, contact the Deputy Principal. At that stage, the Principal, Mr Stuart Johnston, will be alerted to the issue.
If the circumstance is of a serious, highly confidential nature, contact should be made immediately with the Principal through his Personal Assistant 03 9788 7705.

If your concern is with the actions of the Principal, your complaint should be made in writing and sent in a sealed envelope to the office of the Business Manager, addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Ron Zammit.
